Thanksgiving Truth

Posted by on November 22, 2011

I struggle with Thanksgiving.  Why?  The story we hear in school is that it was the time the Europeans and the Indians embraced each other, sat down, and had a meal together.

The premise sounds nice, but reality is: The American Indians and the masacre that followed was one of the biggest to happen in history.  So many men and women died over land, our land that we walk freely on today.

It is our history.  The Thanksgiving truth.  So yes, we look at Thanksgiving is a holiday, a happy time, but I can not pass by a Thanksgiving without thinking about the history of our country, and what actually happened on our land many moons ago.

I do look to November as a time to reflect on my life, where I ended up, and the many blessings that have come to me, but at the same time, I must remember those that have gone before me.

The Indians, beautiful people at heart, full of spirit, full of life, and full of ideas if you truly listen.  They are beautiful people, with a beautiful culture to suit.   May they always be remembered!
