How’d you end up in LA?

Posted by on December 19, 2011

I get asked this question a lot since moving out here.

The truth is, I never know how to respond.  I mean, I know why I ended up here, but I feel if I’m meeting someone for the first time it’s far too much to take in one introduction.

So I throw out, “I was looking for a lifestyle change, I was looking for warmer temperatures.”  Those two sentences are true, but it’s only half of it.

They have no idea I’ve been married and gone through a divorce.  They have no idea I worked at a career for 13 years, worked up the corporate ladder, got to a decent high enough amount when I saw the whole picture and recognized I couldn’t do this the rest of my life.  I wanted to know what it was like to have weekends off and holidays off.  What it was like to not have to work every Saturday night, or even have to work an evening once a week.  I wanted to taste that.

They have no idea that I love to travel, and that I want to see the USA.  I want to ge tout as much as I can.

And they have no idea that the year after I asked for a divorce, I met a guy online who sparked my interest when I wasn’t even looking for a relationship.  This guy was out in California, Los Angeles none the less.  At the same time I was looking for warmer temperatures, looking to see another side of the country, and looking to put my life skills to work.

So I took a risk, I took a chance for the first time in my life.

I am not a risk taker.  I play it safe always.  So why would a girl move across the country after talking to someone for 5 months?  Well, it felt right.  And so I did it.

He flew to Minnesota to meet my family and friends and then we drove across the country back to California.  We drove through the Rocky Mountains, through the beautiful landscape of Utah, and I got to drive through Las Vegas, a place I’ve visited many times in my life, so it was very liberating to actually be able to drive through it.

And we started small with barely anything to where we are now.  It hasn’t been easy since I’ve moved out here, but I wouldn’t do anything different either.

I have more of an appreciation for life, I have more of an appreciation for things I use to take for granted, and I have more of an appreciation for family, and love, and teamwork.  I have more of an appreciation for everything.

The funny thing is, I make half the amount of money than I use to, have the same amount of bills, but yet I am far happier.

To be honest, in order for me to fly, I had to take away everything I had ever known, but there’s no looking back now!

And we’re happily engaged now =) but no pertinent plans of a wedding in the future.  When it happens, it happens!
