Metropolis Exhibit at LACMA!

Posted by on March 12, 2012

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Natural Product Expo in Anaheim, CA, and you’ll be hearing more about that tomorrow and the weeks to follow!

But yesterday, we headed out to LACMA to check out the exhibits happening there. One of those exhibits was the Metropolis. Metropolis II was created by Chris Burden, and it gives a good example of a huge city structure with the traffic that drives around it.

For those that live in LA, we can truly relate to this on any given day of the year.  100,000 Matchbox cars zoom around this structure created by the artist Chris Burden.  It is pretty incredible to watch in action.  There are specific times the cars go off: Fridays: 11:30 to 12:30; 2:30 to 3:30; 4:30 to 5:30; 6:30 to 7:30pm.  And then on the weekends: 11:30 to 12:30; 1:30 to 2:30; 3:30 to 4:30; and 5:30 to 6:30pm.   It is truly worth the time to check it out.  Enjoy the pictures!

While there we also saw that the “famous” rock from Riverside made it to LACMA safely.  Throughout the week, this huge rock, the size of a house was transported from Riverside, CA to the LACMA museum.  It created a lot of media attention and a huge following.  Well, it made it to LACMA safely, and the Levitated MASS exhibit will be opening in the near future.

It was a fun day of looking at art, and of course, the last thing on the list of visiting LACMA was playing with the famous light posts 😉

The whole reason for visiting LACMA was for the Robert Adams exhibit that opened up that day.  Robert Adams is a famous photographer that had been taking photos for 4 decades which captioned photos from Colorado, and the small town life as things began to develop into the life that is today.  It was interesting walking through his exhibit, and another article will be coming out about that shortly! There were also photos from Los Angeles and The Pacific into Oregon and also photos from Sweden in his exhibit 😉 While out at LACMA, it’s definitely worth taking a peek!
