Happy Birthday to my darling SO ;)

Posted by on August 3, 2012

Dear the one I love,

It’s been a wild and crazy couple of years hasn’t it?  For those that haven’t read the entire story of how my love and I came to be, please check it out here.  It’s a good one, but one I often have a hard time explaining when people ask me in person.  lol.

So, as you can see from the picture above, my love makes me laugh.  He has a very eccentric personality, and one of the first things I ever told him was this, “you’re definitely going to keep me on my toes.”  And let me tell you, he has.  He surprises me in the nicest of ways.  Like last June, when I went away for the weekend I came home to an apartment completely cleaned and flowers waiting for me.  No worries, no need to hate me, that was really the first time that ever happened, and it hasn’t happened since 😉 or perhaps it just told me I need to take more weekend trips away.

But he’s been nothing but supportive of me since I moved out to LA.  When I first got here I was so afraid to go anywhere, and within the first couple of weeks he briefly explained to me where to stay, and where I could try to venture out on my own.  And I did.  He was away at work.  And slowly but surely, especially after getting my job, I learned the city, and fast, and now there is no where I am afraid to go.

He has been nothing but supportive in my writing adventures.  I have taught him how fun going to the theater is, and he’s even told me, he’d love to make a date night of it, as opposed to going to the movies.  I often drag him out to festivals, which he dreads, but because he loves me, he goes with.  I have had many first experiences with him too especially when it comes to seafood.  He was the one that showed me how to eat lobster, the one that showed me how to down an oyster, and the one that showed me how to shell a crawfish.

But, I have also dragged him out of his comfort zone.  There were many places in this vast city of LA he never saw before I got into the picture, and with my eye for exploration, he has no seen more of it.  He really does do a lot for me 😉

The more we are around each other the more we begin to recognize each other’s quirks such as his need for quiet, and my need for surround sound.  His need for staying in for a day, while I have a need to explore.  His need for meat, and my need for pasta and fruit.

In the beginning, grocery shopping was such a chore for us.  We just couldn’t agree on anything, but now when we go, we’re really good at working together in grabbing the things we both enjoy, and it’s a much more pleasant experience.

Or, our cleaning system we have at home.  Ladies, you’re going to love this one.  He does the dishes, I put them away.  I do the laundry, he takes out the garbage and cleans the litter boxes, and I clean the bathroom.  It is quite fair.  And have I told you how much I love him for doing the dishes I absolutely dread? 😉

But have no fear, I still get frustrated if he drinks the last of my juice, or eats the last of the chips when while away at work those chips were the only things I could think about on my way home.  To come home to find the bag empty 😉

So I just wanted to write this post to let you know I appreciate you, and the man that you are.  I love you for who you are and all the silly quirks that come with it, and in the end, we do work well as a team 😉

Happy 40th Birthday.  You only turn 40 once, so I hope you enjoy it!

In the beginning… 😉
