Experiencing Ram’s Gate!

Posted by on November 8, 2013

On Halloween, with no costume in hand, we ended up taking in a corn maze next door in Petaluma.  On our way home I was craving a little wine so we decided to stop into Ram’s Gate Winery.  A winery in Sonoma I hadn’t quite been to yet.

Ram's Gate Entrance Walking into Ram’s Gate it definitely felt like fall with the beautiful changing colors of the trees and how well decorated they had it.  You walk into a beautiful meeting room where there’s a giant fireplace to keep you warm.  The tasting area is to your left which greets you warmly.

Wine Tasting FlightThere were two wine tasting flights available.  One for 15 dollars, and one was also available for 20 dollars.  Each tasting came with chips to eat in between your tastings to taste the full palette of the wine.  The flights came with three varieties to try.  My tasting included a Sauvignon Blanc, a Chardonnay and a Zinfandel.

My SO also partook in a tasting and got the other three tasting varietals available: Sauvignon Blanc, A Pinot Noir, and a Syrah.  We ended up taking home a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and for those that know me, this has easily become one of my favorite varietals.  The Sauvignon Blanc came from the Carneros region, and was enjoyable.

Wine Tasting We took our tasting out to an outside area where we could look out at  the vineyards, take photos and enjoy our tasting amongst ourselves laughing at each other, sharing each other’s flights and talking about our experience.

Ram’s Gate will waive your tasting fee if you buy three bottles or more of wine.  We just bought one ourselves that day.  Afterwards, we walked around the vineyards, took a few photos, and took in a view of the lake surrounding Ram’s Gate Winery.

Ram's Gate Outside Area

There’s seating outside along the side, and also on the back of the vineyard with GREAT views all around.  We loved the side area because not only did we get a view of the vineyards, but also of the lake behind it.

Ram's Gate ExperienceRam’s Gate Winery also has other wine experiences for you to partake in that include:

“Palate Play” – Winery Tour and Seated Wine & Food Pairing

Glass of Sparkling Brut in hand, embark on a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery led by a devoted Wine Guide — then sit back and relax for a seated tasting through four wines, each with a food pairing designed specifically by our Executive Chef to bring out the very best in each wine. “Win(e)d Up” – Winery Tour and Seated Tasting

For those who seek a purely wine-focused experience at Ram’s Gate Winery, “Win(e)d Up” is the same behind-the-scenes adventure as “Palate Play,” only without food pairings: bubbles, backstage tour, seated tasting, four wines and devoted Wine Guide. Approximately 90 minutes. $40 per Person; $35 for Members.
