I grew up in Minnesota and every now and again I’d browse the cable channels and run across a sand castle competition. They looked so professional and so much fun. That’s why when I ended up in Southern California, the first opportunity I heard about a sand castle competition, I wanted to see what it was all about.
Well, the Corona Del Mar Beach Competition was today, and I went down there. There were about 20 participants all lined up in a row, and you walked along the row taking pictures and viewing the creations. They created castles, whales, pyramids, mermaids, sharks, and more.
Although I must admit, it was a lot smaller than what I imagined in my head, and I was kind of disappointed in a lot of the creations. I guess they start out at 11am, and they have until 2:30pm to finish their creation.
Some of the tools they used were sponges, spray water, buckets, tubes to create mote ways..
And unfortunately for one team, their castle collapsed 9 minutes before end time… and this is what they ended up with.
I don’t think I’ll be partaking in anymore sand castle competitions. They were fun, but once was enough for me.
