The San Pedro Holiday Parade!

Posted by on December 2, 2012

I remember when I was asked to be apart of my first parade. I was in dance at the time. And MY OH MY, how far we had to walk in that one. My feet still ache from that one.

Since then, I had other opportunities to be apart of parades whether through my local softball team, or the time I helped out with my dad for his business in their city.

But one thing I noticed today, more than anything, now as an adult, is that it’s a great way to learn about the community around you. Whether from the businesses in the area, or from the surrounding school’s that are asked to be apart of it, or from the area councilmen and women, there is a huge sense of pride that comes from parades. So let me share some of my pics with you:  A recap of San Pedro Holiday Parade.

Policemen

The parade started off with the local policemen coming out in full force.  From their motorcycles, bicycles, mobiles, cars, and trucks, and on foot.  They were there.

Fire Trucks

And where there are policemen, we can’t forget our firemen, and the hard work that goes into their day.

San Pedro High School Cheerleaders

The San Pedro High School came in next with their Cheerleaders, Color Guard and Marching Band.

Carson High School Marching Band

Carson High School and also Gardena High School were asked to participate in the San Pedro parade too.  Those are area high schools to San Pedro.

The Warner Grand Theater is putting on the performance of “The Nutcracker” right now, and this was on behalf of their float in the parade.  I happened to catch her as she made a jump in midair!

Diva Cheerleaders

There were a variety of cheerleaders on hand during the parade, but these little girls from the Diva Cheerleading squad did a great job, and even stopped to lift each other up in a triangle formation throughout the parade.

San Pedro has their own Fort MacArthur army base, so it’s only fitting we had a real Colonel apart of the parade!

Councilmen Joe Buscaino made an appearance with his parade of dogs.  Aren’t they adorable?

There was a lot happening throughout the parade that lasted from 1pm to 3pm, but in the end, it made me appreciate the town I live in, and the spirit of San Pedro was very much alive and well.
