Book Review: Scammed!

Posted by on February 26, 2013

In college I majored in Social Work so topics such as the elderly, homeless, and more are often on my mind, so when I was approached to review “Scammed,” I couldn’t wait to read it.

“Scammed” is the book that helps the elderly and children of the elderly prepare themselves to avoid predators.

“When Art Maines’ beloved step-father Bill was cheated out of thousand of dollars; Art went on a mission to ensure no other family experiences this tragic crime.”

In “Scammed” Art provides a 3 step scam prevention and recovery program based on his training as a social worker, therapist, and his extensive research.  Suitable for seniors or children with elderly parents, SCAMMED will help you:

*Understand the most common types of scams

*Learn the psychological ploys used by scammers so that you can spot them immediately

*Create a scam prevention plan

*Recover from a scam with your dignity intact

*Use the resources in your community if you suspect a scam

This book really opened my eyes to another issue I had never even thought about when it comes time to take care of your elderly parents, grandparents, and yourself.

Those that prey upon others through different scams.  This book prepared me for what to look out for, what kind of scams are out there, and how to deal with it if it does happen.

Art does a great job of showcasing the different kind of scams, and later on in the book breaks down what mindset happens between a scammer and his victim, and how to recover from being scammed.

The book breaks down into four main chapters: Getting Scammed and the Recovery Steps, Emotional Challenges and the Psychology of Scamming, Prevention: The scam-resistent elder, and putting the steps into practice with three common problems.

It was a good read especially for anyone taking on the role as a caregiver, or children with aging parents.
