Sand Castle Competitions…

I grew up in Minnesota and every now and again I’d browse the cable channels and run across a sand castle competition.  They looked so professional and so much fun.  That’s why when I ended up in Southern California, the first opportunity I heard about a sand castle competition, I wanted to see what it was all about.

Well, the Corona Del Mar Beach Competition was today, and I went down there.  There were about 20 participants all lined up in a row, and you walked along the row taking pictures and viewing the creations.  They created castles, whales, pyramids, mermaids, sharks, and more.

Although I must admit, it was a lot smaller than what I imagined in my head, and I was kind of disappointed in a lot of the creations.  I guess they start out at 11am, and they have until 2:30pm to finish their creation.

Some of the tools they used were sponges, spray water, buckets, tubes to create mote ways..

And unfortunately for one team, their castle collapsed 9 minutes before end time… and this is what they ended up with.

I don’t think I’ll be partaking in anymore sand castle competitions.  They were fun, but once was enough for me.

How did I end up here?

A year ago, I entered into California, and it became my new home.  How did I end up here?  To be honest, I never envisioned myself here.  LA was the place that movie stars went.  The place that future actresses, actors, writers, and filmmakers went.  What was I doing here?  Alls I wanted was a life change, and to get away from the cold of Minnesota.

You know.  I took a big risk.  The economy was horrible.  The job outlook was even worse, but I had the naive thinking of, “I have a college degree, I’ll be able to find a job.”  In the grand scheme of things, it took me 2 entire months to find a job.  And in the grander scheme of things, it was a job that I wasn’t passionate about.

But what I needed was time.  You see, the thing was, I was at a place in my life where my entire life was at a crossroads.  I was newly divorced, lost my house, and just left the job I built a career at, and put so much time into.  I was lost.  I was overworked, and I needed a break.

I took those 2 months and just enjoyed not working.  I enjoyed being in a new place, and I enjoyed the new found freedom of being in a place where I literally knew no one.  Well, except one, but I could be myself around him anytime.

So, here it is.  My blog about my journies throughout LA, my blog about finding my inner passions, and my blog about whereever life happens to be taken me.  Hope you enjoy reading!!

I might post events happening around LA, things I’ve witnessed in this crazy city, or just something I thought about that day.  But, it is my goal to write at least one article a day.
