#AD: “O” Wines Stands for “Opportunity!

Posted by on May 1, 2013

A few weeks ago I was invited out to a fun restaurant, Schooners at Sunset, in Sunset Beach for a wine tasting on behalf of “O” Wines.

O Wines does a great thing by providing scholarships to low income, capable young women so they can achieve their greatest potential through education.  This is where the “Opportunity” comes into play.

O Wines is a part of the Chateau Ste. Michelle family.  They became a part of the family fall of last year, and have had many more opportunities since joining the brand.

How did “O” Wines come to be?  O Wines was established in 2006 in Woodinville, Washington with a mission to fund scholarships with the proceeds of wine sales for low income, high potential young women.  Founds Stacy Lill and Kathy Johnanson had a vision to educate, motivate and give young women the confidence and opportunity to succeed through knowledge.  From 2008 to 2012, O Wines awarded more than 125,000 in scholarships.

That evening, Stacy Lill joined us to talk about her wine, and how it all started.  The process began with the chardonnay because of its popularity in wine.  Their chardonnay is very light, airy, and crisp.  Not as heavy as other chardonnays are known for.  Partly due to the growing season of that year.

The other variety is their Red Wine.  It is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.  They describe it is a subtle oak with rich, juicy Washington fruit character.

And this was a nice, pleasant red wine.  It was very strong so even those that stray more towards whites could even enjoy this red wine.

That evening we got to try yummy food at Schooner’s at Sunset, which believe it or not, just opened their restaurant 3 months prior.  They are apart of the same restaurant family as Schooner or Later in Seal Beach.

O Wines 015We were also introduced to the man running the Schooner’s at Sunset location, and he told us about the restaurant and how they redid the entire building.  There are a variety of beach themed products along the walls considering it resides in a beach city.  Very nautical feeling to the restaurant.

It was a great evening learning about wine and a new restaurant.  The wines suggested retails run from 14 to 16 dollars a bottle.  And now you know what the “O” stands for.

Have you tried “O” Wines?
