I am NOT a Mother, but I am a consumer!

Posted by on June 2, 2012

Ever since I found the blogging world, and have seen the influence that bloggers have on products, on social media, and on what’s up and coming, I am amazed… but then I think about how brands market to specific niches only, and it got me thinking.  Is marketing to just one area a good thing?

I am NOT a mother, but one thing I know is that I am, indeed, a consumer.  So, I wanted to write this list out (I’m not writing this to offend, I appreciate all the mother’s out there in the world!)

I am NOT a mother, but one thing I know, is that we are ALL consumers.

I am NOT a mother, but I do cook on a daily basis for me and my loved one, and we even need to think about our lunches that we bring to work.

I am NOT a mother, but I do enjoy going to movies.  Every weekend my partner and I usually hit one movie.

I am NOT a mother, but I do enjoy video games.  I have the WII, and as I grew up between my brother and I, we had all the latest nintendo products, playstations, and the latest gaming systems available.

I am NOT a mother, but I do enjoy going to amusement parks; especially with friends, or even on my own.

I am NOT a mother, but I drive my car everywhere.  On a given week, I put roughly 500 miles on my car.

I am NOT a mother, but I have a love for exploration.  Take me to the latest museum exhibit, take me to the latest restaurant opening, take me to the latest zoo, I will be there checking it out.

I am NOT a mother, but I have a love of travel.  I’ve traveled many places in my life, thus far, and I am looking to travel more.  California is a completely new arena to me with so much to see and do, and I want to do all of it ;)

I am NOT a mother, but I love snack foods (applesauce, fruit snacks, chips, yes please!)

I am NOT a mother, but I am a pet owner.  I love my CATS ;)

I am NOT a mother, but I have a wide network range that continues to grow on a daily basis.

I am NOT a mother, but brands have been apart of my life since the day I was born.

I am NOT a mother, but I have a deep love for wine.

I am NOT a mother, but I have a desire to buy a bicycle.

I am NOT a mother, but I am addicted to social media

I am NOT a mother, but I’m always looking for ways to spend my money ;)

I am NOT a mother, but one thing I know for sure, is that we’re all consumers!

Okay, that felt good to get it off my chest ;) The truth is, we are all consumers, and each brand has different markets they’re trying to reach, but each market has a new way of looking at the product, and a different way to put the product to use.  In the end, we love our products, and love hearing of the new products that come out each year.

I read something the other day where some Mom communities were reaching out to non-Moms because they see them as also marketing/reaching out to Mothers. I think a change is underway :)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the communities that have blossomed. We as people like to find people that have similar interests as us, and there is a vast world difference between mothers and non mothers, but I’m a huge believe in women sticking together and supporting each other no matter our differences, so I just hate seeing different niches, whereas, we’re all women, we should be supportive and all encompassing ;) lol

I agree with you on all of that!!!!!!!!!!!!! (x10000000) and I know the Mom Communities were born to make it easier for companies and it’s a suckass reason lol I did however see that Latina Mom Bloggers are now accepting non-Latinas and non-Moms! And was completely surprised!

and I just never know that fine line of where I should be… lol!

Well put, I am a mother, but to 3 teenagers…and that is different all together. There seems to be a lot out there (Blogs) for Moms with “little ones,” that I sometimes wonder if its okay to “Blog Hop” on certain blogs because mine isn’t geared toward a Mommy Blog, but a business/inspirational life type blog. I also love your Comment to Xenia “…I’m a huge believe in women sticking together and supporting each other no matter our differences, so I just hate seeing different niches, whereas, we’re all women, we should be supportive and all encompassing.” I agree whole heartedly!

Thanks for stopping by Victoria!! =)

I completely understand how there is a huge market to sell especially with mothers with little ones, but there are a ton of markets out there that are really all encompassing for everyone. This whole topic has been on my mind lately. I struggled with hitting the publish button on this, as well, partially afraid I could be blacklisted for speaking aloud ;) LOL

but I’m glad it’s out there!

I also hear that a lot from mothers with older children, how they don’t get pitched a whole lot either… and yes they’re a mother, but their blog is focused on other avenues altogether. =)

Word! I’m not a mom, and I am not white either. (another sore thorn in my side.) You’re right on about companies stuck in this weird mode of just marketing to only one set of their consumers. I saw it in my pro life, and sometimes it is hard to suggest other “segments” when they are used to “if ain’t broke, don’t fix it” thinking. Lucky for us, there are agencies and businesses who are not so narrow-minded (or have small budget that they can only target one niche/group) that they’re willing to welcome other groups/segments to their products or services! But yeah, word, girl.

Thanks for stopping by Chris!! Separating groups has always bugged me, most likely due to my social work background.. what I went to school for ;) LOL..

but drives me up the wall as I go through my research and find I can’t be involved with something because of this or that… lol
