The LA County Fair officially kicks off today and goes through September 30th. Fun events are planned throughout the entire month. The other day I was invited out to a food preview, and let me tell you, just by the sampling of food I’ve seen I am so excited to attend this fair.
And for those of you that know me, that is huge. I’m a Minnesota Girl, and our fair, the Minnesota State Fair is well known, and everything with a stick can be found there, but I must say, with the samplings of food I’ve tried the other night, The LA County Fair is after my heart.
There were just a small amount of vendors on hand, but it was a GREAT sampling, and now I must show you pictures and talk about some of the vendors that will be found around the fair:
First up is “Ten Pound Buns.” They make wonderful contraptions on sourdough bread. They have a variety of options from cheese, pepperoni, bacon nutella, meat lovers, to jalapeno and cheese, to just their original with cheese. They have 7 different varieties to choose from, and my choice for the evening was:
But I couldn’t leave the booth without a small sample of their Bacon Nutella. Although I am not much of a bacon fan (*gasp*) the sweet and salty did well in my mouth:
2) Skinny Girl Bar and Food
New to the fair this year is “Skinny Bar.” Yes, those fabulous delicious cocktails at low-calories. These drinks especially designed for women come in margaritas, lemonades, and cosmopolitans.
3) Tasti Chips
These crispy “Tasti Chips” are made in peanut oil, and guess what folks? They are completely gluten-free! Just a personal tip: ADD the Bacon Cheddar cheese (just keep in mind, the cheese isn’t gluten-free!)
They also carry onion rings for your pleasure.
4) Big Kona Huna Shaved Ice
Hawaiian Shaved Ice has been pretty popular in recent years, and this night was no exception. Everyone was loving their contraptions. What makes it “Hawaiian?” The Sweet and Condensed Milk that they add over your flavors.
One of the personal favorites of the evening was their “Root Beer Flavor.”
5) Ice Cream and Funnel Cakes
A personal fair favorite of ice cream goodies and funnel cakes will be around for you to enjoy throughout the fair.
6) Harold & Belle’s to Geaux
If you’re looking for a little something different, and you love Creole food, you need to stop by this booth. They have fried catfish, which I absolutely loved, and many people’s favorite of the night was their Crawfish Etouffe. For delicious dessert they were also serving up some wonderful bread pudding.
7) Chicken Charlie
A fair favorite for many, and is there any wonder why? With deep fried oreos, deep fried cookie dough, and even deep fried kool aid, can you really go wrong? I was even impressed with their Deep Fried “Dodgers Dog.” For you Dodgers fan out there, you must try it out:
And one thing they will only be serving at their “Pineapple Express” location is their “Naked Pineapple Bowl.” and I have to admit this was my absolute favorite of the entire evening:
This bowl comes with rice, pineapple, and 8 pieces of shrimp. To me, it had everything I loved in this world, and there was no going wrong with this one.
New for Chicken Charlie’s this year is their “Deep Fried Cereal” It comes in Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Trix varieties!
8) Pink’s Hot Dogs
Back at the fair for another year is “Pink’s Hot Dogs.” Their well known hot dogs loved by many favorite celebrities will be at the fair. That evening they were letting us try out their Matt Kenseth hot dog: think jalapenos, onions, guacamole, spicy mustard and ketchup, and Wow oh wow, that’s a hot dog.
9) Bloomin’ Onions
Known for their famous “Bloomin’ Onions.” However, one thing that caught my eye at this booth were their marshmellow yammies. Sweet potato fries with marshmellow cream drizzled over them. The sweet was just what I needed to start my night off right:
10) C’est La Vie
And for their first time at the LA County Fair is “Flavors of Crepes from C’est LA Vie.” The same guys that bring you some great restaurants straight out of Laguna Beach. Their booth is all about french pastries, and let me tell you, they have amazing talent. I’m going to let the pictures speak for themselves:
Think Chocolate Mousse, Fruit Tarts, Napoleons, Cheesecakes, and many more amazing options from these guys. You must make it one of your stops at the fair. You will not be disappointed.
11) Monster Grill
Think Burgers, Corn Dogs, and Fries. Lots and lots of Fries. However, this is where I can go to find my corn dog on a stick.
I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t go the entire evening without trying a little something from each place. My body is still kind of angry with me. 😉
