“Fun” Minnesota Facts!!

Living in California I often meet many that have relatives that reside in Minnesota or some that have never been to Minnesota.

For a person that grew up there, and am going back there fairly soon I thought it’d be fun to share some FUN facts about my home state.  Check out these Minnesota Facts.

1) Yes, we do have over 10,000 lakes.  There is actually a website out there that names all the lakes: Check it out here.

2) The State Bird is The Loon.

3) The Twin Cities refer to St. Paul and Minneapolis.  Minneapolis is more well known, however, St. Paul also has some really neat places to visit including Grand Avenue.

4) The Mall of America in Bloomington is the size of 78 football fields — 9.5 million square feet.  And yes, it’s the mall I grew up on.  Inside of the mall lies the “Home Plate” of the former Metropolitan Sports Stadium which can be found within the amusement park.

5) The first Target lies in Roseville, MN.  The headquarters are also located in Minneapolis.

6) The original name of the settlement that became St. Paul was Pig’s Eye. Named for the French-Canadian whiskey trader, Pierre “Pig’s Eye” Parrant, who had led squatters to the settlement.

7) The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country.

8) Yes.  Minneapolis does have a skyway system downtown so during the winter, you can walk through downtown Minneapolis without entering the cold ness outdoors.

9) The climate-controlled Metrodome is the only facility in the country to host a Super Bowl, a World Series and a NCAA Final Four Basketball Championship.

10) Minnesota has 90,000 miles of shoreline, more than California, Florida and Hawaii combined.

11) Minnesota is home to the Rochest “Mayo” clinic which is known for its working and teaching clinic.

12) The Honey Crisp Apple was developed in Minnesota.
