Halloween in July: Knott’s Scary Farm Preview 2013

Posted by on July 18, 2013

Last week, season pass holders of Knott’s Berry Farm, and select members of the media were invited out for a sneak preview of this year’s 41st Annual Knott’s Scary Farm.

Lead by Jeff Tucker, supervisor of Live shows, the one hour event went through what mazes were returning to this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm:

Trick or Treat: Explore the in and outs of the Witch’s House

Pinocchio Unstrung (Wilderness Dance Hall): Pinocchio goes on a revengeful killing spree along with his marionette friends.

Delirium:  Enter a place where the mind is completely set free.  A place where the walking world and nightmares walk along together.

Uncle Willy’s SlaughterHouse: Now the oldest maze at Knott’s Scary Farm, this maze is all about BBQ where Uncle Willy invites you in, and you just may become the main meal.

Endgames:  The rich and powerful have turned all others into slaves for sport.  Enter the post-apocalyptic arena where the gladiators are forced to battle til death for entertainment all while being televised.

The Witches Keep: Yes, returning for it’s 2nd year.  Many years ago, The Green Witch uncovered a wicked source of power in the depths of the Calico Mine, and now she’s hell-bent on using this mysterious energy to capture and corrupt all who dare enter.  Could this be the origin of her wretched Tricksters? A foreboding warning hangs near the entrance of the mine, “Beware the witch’s keep!”

And then, the designers, along with Jeff, talked about what NEW mazes would be present at this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm:

The Dominion of the Damned: Focusing upon the Vampire King, and “The Dominion of the Damned.”

ForeverMore (Mystery Lodge): From Brooke Walters: Design Supervisor:

Follow in the footsteps of the darkly troubled writer Edgar Allan Poe through a nightmare conjured up by a modern madman. Each of Poe’s bloodsoaked and terror-filled tales will envelope you in their insanity and horror. Page by page you will descend deeper into the subconscious of the man who invented American horror.
Forevermore is gothic horror with a modern day twist.

Black Magic: Based on the magic of Harry Houdini this maze will take you on a complete adventure of “Magic Gone Wrong.”

Gunslinger Crave: Set in 1883 in the Old West, A corrupt mayor has hired the Red Hand Gang to kill a gunslinger. After they burn down his house and kill his family they think the job is done. But, the gunslinger is still alive and he’s looking for the ultimate revenge.

Mirror Mirror:

You’ve asked, and they listened.  Mirror Mirror is a maze you just may not be able to get out of.  The Green Witch has put a curse on a mirror, and anyone that looks in may just never be able to find their way out.

And, last year, if you attended Knott’s Scary Farm you may have remembered TRAPPED.  Well, this year it returns under a new name, and a completely new experience bringing out ALL of your phobias and fears: TRAPPED: The New Experience.  This year promises to be even more hard core, scarier, and some designer’s even admitted “There’s rooms in there that they won’t even enter.”

And this year at Knott’s Scary Farm: Elvira returns with her show:

“Elvira’s Sinema Séance”

Knott’s Scary Farm couldn’t be done without the amazing designers behind the mazes:

Timothy “Gus” Krueger

Brooke Walters

Julie Owens

Daniel Miller

These are the people behind the creation of these mazes.  When asked when do they begin planning for the following year their response is that their minds never shut off.  They’re always thinking of “what can be done next.”

And of course, the monsters that come together to help make the ambiance of Knott’s Scary Farm truly happen with over 1000 monsters apart of Knott’s every year:
