Exploring Old Town Sacramento! #VisitSacramento

Posted by on February 20, 2016

Last weekend we took a weekend getaway to Sacramento! It was a good opportunity for us to explore the area a bit more, try out some of the Farm to Table Restaurants, and just have a fun time away from the stress of life.

Old-Sacramento

We ended our weekend trip with spending time along Old Sacramento!  This was MY FIRST TIME walking around Old Sacramento.  Old Town is right off the Sacramento River, and offers scenic views of the area, and also a fun establishment with Old Time Photos, Museums, Carriage Rides, all while paying tribute to the history of Sacramento.

A few things I learned:

It can GET CROWDED on the weekend!

Have a Plan, and alternatives if things get too crowded.

A great place to People Watch.

Stay for the Sunset!

Find a Place to Eat with over 50 Restaurants and Cafes in the area!

What we Did:

Explored the Railroad Museum

Railroad-Museum

This Museum pays homage to the history of the Railroad, particularly in California.  It also gives you the opportunity to explore different style railroads over the years by hopping on and off throughout the museum.  Your ticket includes in and out privileges throughout the day.

Took a Hornblower Cruise:

For 20 dollars per person, you could book yourself a Hornblower Cruise along the Sacramento River.   My other half and I saw this, and since it was a perfect weather day, we had to partake.  It was a relaxing journey throughout the trip, and we learned a few things about Sacramento we didn’t quite know before.

Our favorite part was going underneath the famed Tower Bridge, and also the I-Street Bridge.

Walked Around Old Town Sacramento

As we walked around Old Town Sacramento, we walked into Candy Shops, watch others get Old Time Photos, looked through antiques, grabbed some ice cream, and got ideas on things to do for future trips.

Enjoy The Tower Bridge at Sunset

But our favorite part of the day was at Sunset when we walked across the Tower Bridge, and captured Old Town from the other side:

Recommendations:

Spend some time on the Delta King.  You can even stay overnight!

Delta-King

The Delta King: A Floating Hotel on the Sacramento River.  Explore the different levels, enjoy a meal at their restaurant, or get a drink in the lounge. A favorite among those visiting Sacramento.

Enjoy a Carriage Ride:

Horse Carriage Rides take place around Old Town Sacramento. Carriage and wagon rides are offered throughout the year in Old Sacramento by private coach operators. Catch a ride on 2nd Street between J and K in front of the Wells Fargo Museum and Old Sacramento Visitors Center. Call ahead to make special arrangements.

Train Rides are also available from April 4-September 27.

Take in a Tour:
