A Very #MagicalMeetup at Disneyland!

Last Friday evening, Disneyland through their Disney Parks Blog invited 750 of their fans to come experience their new show at the FantasyLand Theatre, “Mickey and the Magical Map.”  It was a very MagicalMeetup.

Mickey and the Magical Map

I was one of those lucky 750 to experience this fun #magicalmeetup at Disneyland, and believe it or not, it was my first evening back to Disneyland since moving to California nearly 2 1/2 years ago.

Growing up watching the Disney movies, and experiencing a very magical trip when I was in 3rd grade to Walt Disney World, the land of Disney has always had a very special place in my heart, so when the opportunity came for a special night the little kid in me came out.

Mickey and the Magical Map is a cute little show at the theatre that follows Mickey on an amazing journey with a magical map as your guide.  Live music, dancers, and special characters from your favorite Disney movies come to live before you on stage.

Come along as the magical map brings Mickey to new worlds, and as he unlocks new discoveries.  The theatre has recently been renovated to incorporate the latest theatrical technology in a live outdoor setting.

tianaAfter the show, Jaime from Polka Dots on Parade and myself explored the theme park, and lived my dream of being a kid again.

One of my favorite rides growing up was “It’s a Small World.”  Had great memories with my grandmother on this ride during my first visit to Walt Disney World.

Other rides we went on that night included Captain EO, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain and the Teacups.

Memories flooded through my head as I went on these rides again.  Memories from Walt Disney World from previous trips, and memories from my first visit to Disneyland back in college.  Disneyland is really the happiest place on Earth.

And of course, I had to get a picture of myself in front of the castle:

We were even fortunate to capture the fireworks when we got out of The Haunted Mansion, a bit afraid we were going to miss them while we were on that ride:

And by the end of the night, I truly remembered why I fell in love with the Disney Theme Parks in the first place.

What’s your favorite ride in Disneyland?

Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary tickets to Disneyland to see Mickey and the Magical Map.

Discovery Tours: Glass Bottom Boats and more #ad

Before we went to Catalina Island for a weekend I had heard of the Glass Bottom Boats tours, and I was so curious.

Glass Bottom Boat

So, when we began to plan our weekend getaway, going on a glass bottom boat tour was on the top of our lists.  Thanks to Discovery Tours for our complimentary tickets we made sure it happened.

The Glass Bottom Boats take you out to Lover’s cove, and as you look down into the glass bottoms you see the fish all swimming below you.  The driver’s send out food to the fish so they come right under the boat for you.

The boats also had open windows for you to look out behind you.  That day, we were fortunate to see a flying Osprey, and also a Seal chilling as we drove by in our boat.

Prior to getting on board you are given a fish guide of the different kinds of fish that can be found throughout the cove, and what to keep an eye out for.  The fish come out depending on different temperatures of the water.  That day we saw a lot of the California Garibaldi fish, which is illegal to fish, btw.  Their orange was pretty dazzling swimming around.

Black Bass were rumored to be making an appearance that day, but during our tour, we had no luck seeing them.  We also saw dolphins swimming in the distance.  So, the glass bottom boats were a fun tour to take and experience.

Discovery Tours does a GREAT job of making sure your tours are a good experience, and they have a variety of tours available:

Catalina Eco Zip Line Tour: Propel down 5 separate zip lines dropping from 500 feet to 60 feet above sea level.

Summit Night Adventure: Step into your bio-fuel H-1 Hummer for the beginning of a nighttime adventure. Climb the winding, tree-lined road up to the Summit for spectacular viewing of the island’s nighttime skies.

Casino Tour: This 30 minute tour will take you into the beautiful Avalon Theatre where you can see the inside of the theatre and the beautiful organ that lies inside.  Then they will take you to the ballroom where many many dances have taken place. Tickets are 10 dollars with a 2 dollar off coupon to the recent remodeled Catalina Museum

casino

They also offer a “Behind the Scenes” tour that will take you into parts of the Casino that very few have access too, and you’ll hear the real history of the Casino.

Inland Expedition: This comprehensive tour takes you 31 miles through the heart of Catalina’s rugged interior. You’ll travel in a comfortable, ’50’s Flxible Bus™, restored to its original streamlined beauty.

Skyline Drive: This exciting, narrated journey along the scenic “ Skyline Drive” takes you ten miles into Santa Catalina Island’s protected wilderness area.  Tickets are 45 dollars.

There was also a more simple bus tour that took us around Avalon that just cost 20 dollars.  This was a great tour to take especially if its your first tour to Catalina Island.  You will hear a lot of the history about the island, and truly learn about the island.

But, I highly recommend taking one of your tours while you’re out visiting the island.
