Heart of Haiti and Mother’s Day #CleverHaiti #spon

This Mother’s Day, I’m working with Clever Girls in support of Macy’s Heart of Haiti to shine a light on the “trade, not aid” program, which provides sustainable income to Haitian artisans struggling to rebuild their lives and support their families after the 2010 earthquake.

I’ve been very fortunate in my life by being surrounded by strong, amazing women, and I can not talk about Mother’s Day without talking about them.  First, by a long shot was my Grandma Frankenfield.  This woman scared me at times because of how sure she was about the world, and how matter of fact she was about the order of her house.  When my grandparents lived in Ohio, my mom would take my brother and I on a train to visit them.

But once I got to their house, it was beautiful, and well decorated.  She had 9 children with a vast variety of personalities.  It was through her strength I admired, but feared at the same time.  When I became a teenager I became more sassy and tried to test her, but learned it was her way or the highway, and just as fast learned to keep my mouth shut.  One of the things I truly remember about my grandmother was her love of teddy bears and teapots and her collection of spoons.  I also remember the visits where my mom and I would dust off her spoons and teapot collections for her.

One year, we visited around the holidays, and I made this lovely bear blanket for her.  I was so very proud of this, one of the first gifts I gave that was truly made from love.

Another amazing woman in my life was my Grandma Ida.  When my parents divorced, my father moved in with his parents, and every other weekend while he slept since he worked overnights I would hang out with my grandma.  I would watch her cook, as she made an amazing homecook meal every night, and after dinner, my brother and I, with her, would sit around the table and play cards.  This is where she taught us to play Rummi 500, Horse, Gin, and cribbage.  Although I was far too young to understand cribbage at the time, I would sit and watch my grandma and brother play.   She was also the very first person I loved dearly that suffered from cancer, and the first of my grandparents to pass.  I will always cherish the memories I have of her.

And then, of course, my mother.  I can not thank her enough for all that she has truly done for me.  She has brought me into this amazing life, she has supported me throughout my childhood, andhas always been there.  Although, now, I know our relationship is not nearly as strong as it once was, I just want her to know that I love her, and do recognize all she has ever done for me.  From the constant hospital visits when I was young from my many ear infections, to being there as I was bullied in middle school, to supporting me as I went off to college.  If it was not for her I would have never been able to go.  Also, because of her, I got to partake in a trip of a lifetime to Australia and New Zealand.  She has done a lot for me, and I am forever grateful.

This picture was me and my mother on my wedding day.  Although the marriage did not last, this is still one of my all time favorite pictures of the two of us, and I had to share.

And, of course, this Mother’s Day, being it’s May 13th, ironically, the original wedding anniversary from the day above, but it was also the day we lost an amazing woman in our lives.  Grandma Nana, to me, she was my Great Grandmother, and she lived to 91 years old.  That is quite the life for anyone to live.  She was beautiful, smart, and extremely crafty.  She made beautiful afghans, dolls that always put a smile on my face, and so much more.  I have some pretty amazing memories of her.

We were very fortunate to get this picture of her.  She looked so beautiful at this moment in time, and it was a really good, happy day for her.

It’s because of these women in my life that I have become who I am today.  It is because of their strength, their morals, and their teachings that I have become a confident, beautiful woman myself, and I can not thank them enough!

Thank you to Macy’s Heart of Haiti for sponsoring my participation in this “Share Your Heart” promotion. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Disclosure:  Because of this post I was given 2 Macy’s Heat of Haiti Necklaces, which are shown at the top of this post.   One for me, and one to give to an amazing woman in my life!

Snackle Mouth Review and Giveaway Ends 5/18! #spon

Look it this amazing packaging! When you look at it, don’t you just want to pick it up and know more about it?  The fun product behind this packaging is called “Snackle Mouth.”  What is Snackle Mouth exactly?

Snackle Mouth, through their words, “Snackle Mouth was developed by 3 guys named “John.”  They crafted a healthy, tasty, and simple granola nut snack with a high degree of clumpability.  What is clumpability, you ask?  Simply put, it’s a phenomenal flavor cluster, embodying superior taste, and made from the most simple natural and organic ingredients on the planet.  Nutritious, fun and easy to grab on the go, and, the very best part…drum roll please…the taste will blow you away.”  Snackle Mouth is located in Boulder, Colorado.

Snackle Mouth takes some of your favorite “nuts” (almonds, peanuts, oats, granola) and combines them into clumps to make it for a healthy, good tasting snack.  They have 5 varieties:

Almond Berry:  A combination of almonds, blueberries, and toasted oats with blue agave, and brown rice syrup.

Salty Chocolate: A combination of almonds, blue agave, chocolate, oats, oat bran, cashews, brown rice syrup, canola oil, and sea salt.  The perfect combination of sweet and salty.

Bacon Maple: That’s right: little bits of bacon combined with their nut clusters.  Perfect for all the bacon lovers out there!

Almond Pecan Maple: Toasty oats, pecans and almonds in every nut cluster.

Peanut Cranberry: A combination of peanuts, cranberries, and toasted oats.

The other cool thing about Snackle Mouth is that they combine all natural and organic products to create it.   Its made with no refined sugar or trans fat and is low in glycemic.

Right away when I received the samples I dove into the Almond Berry variety.  I wanted sweet and salty mixed together, and I love dried fruits!  I then tried out the peanut cranberry, and this, by far, is my favorite of the 5.  the peanut cranberry combination reminds me of eating peanut butter without the peanut butter.  They made a great cluster with all the ingredients together.

This evening when I got home I tried the salty chocolate to taste the sweet and salty mix.  Just when you’re craving something sweet in your cluster you’ll run across that chocolatey bite.

Snackle Mouth is a great snack for on the go, at work, or even to add into lunches.  Trust me, I took a box with me throughout my day during this week, and dove in whenever I was hungry.

FAVE Juice Launching!! #spon

Have you heard of FAVE Juice? Most likely not because it is expected to hit stores come June.  I had the luxury of trying FAVe Juice when I visited #ExpoWest back in March, and afterwards, they sent me a sample of each flavor.  This juice is great, and let me tell you why:

FAVE really took a deep look at to what the consumer was looking for in their juice:

This information came from the U.S Focus Groups held in late 2010 and early 2011, they asked consumers to describe their “ideal juice beverage”  This is what was found:

1) Contains 100% Juice

2) Contains Full daily servings of vegetables and/or fruit

a) Vegetables are much more important.  I can get the fruit elsewhere

3) Has low calories per serving

4) Is “all natural)

a) no added sweeteners

b) no splenda, stevia, nutrasweet, ace-k, etc

c) no preservatives

5) Great tasting

a) will not drink unless it tastes good

FAVE really took this to heart, and tried to come out with the juice that catered to all these needs.

In each 8 ounce glass of FAVE:

1) 100% fruit and vegetable juice

2) Three Full Servings of vegetables

*This is more than any other beverage, patented technology*

3) 60 Calories!

Most competitive brands have 110 to 170 calories!

4) All Natural

*no artificial ingredients, no added sweeteners of any kind*

5) Three delicious, refreshing fruit flavors

*Strawberry-Banana-Kiwi

*Blueberry-Pomegranate-Goji

*Orange-Tangerine-Pineapple

As you can see above, FAVE really delivered on fulfilling consumer’s “ideal juice.”

I have tried all three flavors, and my personal favorite is the strawberry-banana-kiwi!  I will continue to buy this variety and drink it again and again.  This juice is great for on the go, for sippy cups, and a great alternative to all the sugary juices provided elsewhere.

FAVE offers 3 servings of vegetables in every 8 ounce glass.  V-8 only offers 2 servings per glass.  And when you drink it you definitely can not taste the vegetables in it.  So, please, when FAVE comes out to the stores in June, be sure to pick some out and try it out.

*Disclosure* FAVE Juice sent me a sample of each flavored variety.  The opinions in this article are of my own, but I would recommend this juice to anyone*
