Stress and Heart Disease!

There is no evidence that shows that STRESS is a trigger to heart disease, but there is evidence that STRESS has physical side effects  (http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/stress-heart-attack-risk) Also, because when people get stressed, they are more proned to do unhealthy things to their bodies whether they begin to smoke, stop exercising, or hit up that junk food.

I have never been one to handle STRESS well.  Literally, a few years back when I made all my life changes was the moment I looked at my own life and eliminated all the STRESS out of it.  Boy, did it make a difference in the person I was, and my happiness.

So, here are some tips on how to handle STRESS:

Eat Right and Exercise

Set Realistic Goals

Be Flexible

Reduce Criticism of yourself and Others

Take the negativity out of your life

Find Relaxation techniques: Yoga, Meditation, Breathing

Be cheerful and positive

Eliminate STRESS when you see it building up.

Our Body Gives Us Signs to show it’s STRESSED: learn to listen to your body:

Body Signs:

Headache, Muscle Tension, Chest Pain, Fatigue, Change in Sex drive, Stomach upset, Sleep problems.

Mood Signs:

Anxiety, Restlessness, Lack of motivation/focus, Irritability or anger, Sadness or depression

On your behavior:

Overeating or undereating, angry outbursts, drug or alcohol abuse, tobacco use, and social withdrawal.

Just remember, as with anything in life, we are in control in how we decide to handle our stress, and the stressful situations that come our way.  It easily starts in the mind, and can easily effect us everywhere else.  The key is learning to stop it HEAD on, and eliminate it.  I know, sometimes easier said than done 😉

I hope you guys enjoyed my series this month related to Heart Awareness, and tips to a healthier heart.  This is the last series of the month for this topic.  Next Month marks National Women’s History month where I will be taking a closer look at the phenomonal women I look up to: historical or personally.

Places I’d love to travel to.

We all have our travel lists, our places we’d like to go in life.  My only rule is that I’m keeping it in the US for right now, for if I think beyond that, the list will get far too big 😉

As you may or may not know, I do have a goal to travel to all 50 states in my life.  Unfortunately, I’ve only been to 22 thus far.  Although, the other 28 states are on my list, there are a few places that stick out beyond the rest.

1) Seattle

For years now, I’ve wanted to visit Seattle.  Since I first heard about the Music museum I’ve wanted to go and explore it.  The idea that mountains and the ocean were so close together made for another reason, and the greenery that was around Seattle.  And of course, walking along Pike Place where the historic Fish Video was made =)

2) Grand Canyon

Pictures just can’t capture the beauty that is the Grand Canyon so it is on my list of things to witness and see in life.  Not only as it my dream to capture it, but it’s my dream to ingrain a memory of that majestic beauty.

3) Boston

To me, Boston is just another one of those cities that a person must see at least once in their lives.  I’ve had friends visit it over and over again because they’ve loved it so much.  Besides, I want to visit the bar where everyone knows your name 😉

4) New York City

This city scares me, but in the same time, it captures me.  To see the Statue of Liberty to the hustle and bustle of the city happening around me.  The idea of New Year’s Eve in Times Square, as crowded as that may be, to the Rockefeller Center to FAO Schwartz.  Okay, okay, I’ve seen far too many movies with New York in them 😉 But it’s one of those cities that a person must see before they die.

5) YellowStone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Delani National Park

Nothing is more beautiful than being out in nature.  The wild animals, the beautiful landscapes, and watching mother nature unfold into itself.  Our national parks are truly beautiful.

6) Savannah, Georgia

It is my dream to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah, Georgia.  I hear it is the place to celebrate that holiday.  Plus the beauty of the East Coast, and the historical homes throughout Savannah.

7) Alaska

One day, somehow, I will visit Alaska.  It’s my dream to do it through a cruise.  But someone mentioned to me that you can only see so much when on a cruise.  So I’m beginning to debate that strategy!

8) Hawaii

Hawaii is on my list, however, it’s not near the top.  Perhaps it’s because I live in such a warm climate now, or perhaps it’s because I’ve never been much of a tropical girl.  But one day, I have to experience it, and the blue, blue waters that surround the islands.

9) Nashville, Tennessee

Music capitol of the world.  Something about this city shouts beauty to me.  The truth is, I’m not even that big into country, but I’d like to visit this city.

10) Maine

I want to experience Maine during the fall.  Those beautiful fall colors along that North Eastern corridor has always been a dream of mine, and to stay in Bed and Breakfasts along the way.

Gosh, this list was a lot harder to write than I realized.  To pinpoint exactly why I wanted to visit these specific areas of the country, or to narrow it down to just 10 places.  I stuck with the pretty big areas for now, but I will continue to explore all 50 states in greater detail.  It just means I need to start doing my research 😉

I am drawn to big cities, and places related to nature.  I like the Mountains, but I also love the hustle and bustle of the cities.  I love the great wide open, but love knowing there’s a store just down the road if I need it.

My ideal place to visit has a combination of both nature and city.

Patience.

Often times, I will sit back and observe the world around me.  I will watch as people hustle and bustle through their lives.  As people speed past in their cars, or lurch in front of others because they just can’t wait for a single minute or two.

I will watch as people yell at others in the Customer Service field because something didn’t go according to plan, or I will watch as people begin to fidget the more and more they have to wait in line.

Humans have no patience.  I have decided this.  Somehow, somewhere, down the line, all rules of patience have been thrown out the window.

Is it because we’re trying to do too much? Or perhaps it’s because there’s just not enough time in the day, or perhaps it’s because work is being piled up on us.  Or perhaps it’s because we’re incapable of handling stress.

What happens if we just stop to smell the roses? What happens if we just take a deep breath, and just sit back and observe our surroundings.  What happens if we just take the time to let others go in front of us in line, or take the time to let another car go in front of us.  What happens then?

Patience.

We all need more of it.  We all need to just slow down, and take it a step at a time.  There’s no need to rush, things will happen when they happen.

A few quotes to get you through your day:

He that can have Patience, can have what he will” -Benjamin Franklin

The keys to patience are acceptance and faith. Accept things as they are, and look realistically at the world around you. Have faith in yourself and in the direction you have chosen.” -Ralph Marston

The key to everything is patience. You get the chicken by hatching the egg, not by smashing it.” -Arnold Glasgow
