To Be a Dreamer

Welcome to this edition of Thoughtful Tuesday.  Let me start off by handing over a quote.

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
Harriet Tubman

For me, I was always afraid to dream, or to go too far outside the box.  I cared far too much about how others viewed me, and I was far too concerned about disappointing those around me.  In turn, I realized later on in life that the only one I was disappointing was myself.  I missed opportunities because I was too afraid to try.  I missed opportunities because I wasn’t open to them.  And I missed opportunities because I didn’t know what my dreams even were.

I am a LATE Bloomer, but because I have begun to dream, I feel as if I’m a completely different person at times.  I have given myself hope again.  Instead of just going day by day, in hope of things getting better, I realized I needed to be the one to take action.

I began to dream.  First, I dreamt about travelling.  Next thing I know I was buying a ticket to visit Washington DC, alone.  Oh my, who travels alone? Is it safe? Will I be okay?  I did it, and it was one of the best experiences of my life.

Next I dreamt of moving out of Minnesota.  Next thing I know, I’m travelling across the country on an unforgettable trip seeing the beauty of this wonderful country I live in.  I never knew Utah was so beautiful.

And then I dreamt of writing.  Each day I would browse through craigslist and peek through their writing jobs.  Because of this, I have found some great writing opportunities, one that has led me to review plays and events throughout Los Angeles, and another that is so new I can’t even begin to talk about it.

I realized that it is far easier to go after your dreams then not doing anything at all because then that nagging feeling of, “what might have been” stays in your mind.  The only way to get rid of that feeling is to put yourself out there and try.

So, for all of you, let the dreams begin!  Do you have any stories for me to share? I’d love to hear them!

My Favorite Places in LA

Let me take you on a journey of some of my favorite places in LA! (Los Angeles)

The Original Farmer’s Market in Downtown Los Angeles is a must see.  For a lover of farmer’s markets, this is the true gem, always running, always fresh, and always available for you.  It’s also connected to The Grove Shopping Complex so you can get in your shopping, if you so choose.  I love coming here any day of the week, but it’s especially fun to walk around during the Holidays as the decorations are all around.  It helps that it has The French Crepe Company inside for me.  A lover of Crepes, and they make some delicious ones, it is one of my favorite places to go within LA.

Long Beach.  I reside across the bridge in San Pedro, but every time I cross over, a sense of calm comes over me.  I am in love with this city.  I love walking around through it whether I’m hitting the bars off of Pine Avenue, or walking near the Aquaranium and Shoreline Village, or spending an afternoon in Belmont Shores, I love this city, and it is one of my favorite places to go and hang out.  The beach is there, the sun is shining, and it’s a young community.

The San Pedro Water Show is a must see.  During the summer they coordinate it with a night of a concert in the park.  But the water show is a 10 minute show that goes off to music between the hours of 8 – 9pm and during the weekday between 12pm and 1pm.  Throughout the day, the water show goes off every half hour.  During the night it is a gorgeous view especially with the Vincent Thomas bridge in the background.

The Art Walks happening around town.  I particularly enjoy going to the Downtown ARt Walk that happens every 2nd Thursday of the Month.  It is quite the showing.  I do frequent San Pedro’s 1st Thursday’s Art Walks, and look forward to seeing Venice’s Art Walk on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  If anyone knows of any other great art walks, let me know about them! I can not have enough art in my life.

I don’t do it often, but perhaps once every three months I like to head out to the Santa Monica Pier and take the walk to Venice Beach.  It is such a fun area, and there’s always something to be seen there.  The pier with the rides make for some photography shots, along with all the action happening along Venice Beach. One day I will get up my nerve to rent a bike and spend a day biking, and then regret it the next day as every muscle in my body will be sore from it! =)

This is just a short list, but come back next Monday as I share photos from some of my favorite museums in the LA area =)

Ideas throughout the week!

I was thinking about my blog today and the idea of having a theme to go on each day of the week.  The weekends are going to be open to whatever topic that comes to mind, but I have it laid out here:

Photograph Mondays: It’s my time to show off a picture I’ve taken.  This will encourage me to get out that camera and continue to pursue my love of photography.

Thoughtful Tuesday: Perhaps an inspirational quote, thoughts that come to mind, or something overheard as you go about your day.  It will be shared.

Whimsical Wednesdays: We all love the thought of a vacation, well, wednesdays, I’ll take you to some place new for all of us to drool over and dream of visiting!  It can be local within the Los Angeles area, or somewhere faraway!

Thirsty Thursday: Perhaps I’ll talk about a new wine, a new beer, or a fun bar venue in the LA area.

Fun Filled Fridays: FUN FUN FUN, this is how we want to start our weekend, so this is how we will do it =)

This is the direction my blog will be taking.  I’ll try this out for a few months or two, but then may have to switch the themes of the days of the week to keep it interesting =)
