10 Things I learned from my weekend at the River!

Posted by on June 12, 2012

Isn’t it funny how when you take a weekend trip away or even when you go on vacation you come back more exhausted than before you even left?

I took the past 2 days off because I needed to recuperate ;) It felt good, and I caught up on much needed sleep and rejuvenation!

But, I am back, and now I want to share with you 10 Things I learned from my Weekend Trip at the River

1) It is possible to fit 5 people’s luggage and gear into a small size car ;) Including the people

2) Make sure there is enough GAS in your oven before trying to bake something!

I was asked to prepare lasagna for one of the weekend meals.  I put it together really fast, however, it sat in the oven for a hour, and we wondered why the cheese wasn’t melting.  We let it cook a bit longer by turning the temperature up before we realized the oven wasn’t working because there was no more gas ;) WHOOPS

3) Water Currents at the River are much faster

Especially since it was the Colorado River.  It was also the weekend of the annual tube float, so the dam opened the floodgates on the current and made the water faster.  It also meant the importance of knowing how to swim and staying close to the shore by holding onto ropes and being tied up.

4) Affordable Breakfasts are the best!

I had an awesome Country Scramble (Biscuits covered with scramble eggs and gravy) and it only cost me 5 dollars! Love when a meal tastes that good and it’s affordable!

5) If a guy offers to buy you a drink, he has other intentions!

Hey, I don’t think I’ll turn down a free drink, but one thing I know for sure is knowing the importance of when to get out of there.  When one of my friends was asked, “do you want to bring the party back to our place?” That was our cue to get out, and fast.

6) Girls Like to Get Wild while away ;)

And by wild? I mean, by doing things together.  Check out our tattoos: we’re so bad.

7) The Wine Corkscrew at the Dollar Store really is only worth a dollar ;)

It opened the first bottle of wine, but by the second, it was broken.  We were very grateful to our older, wine loving neighbors!

8) The HEAT makes me cranky!

Out where we were near Lake Havasu, Arizona, the heat was in the 100′s, and being in it all day was tough.  By the end of the weekend I was ready to get back to the weather of LA, where it was much more tolerable and cooler ;)

9) Always make sure to have an EXTRA tube float around!

How many tubes got a hole this past weekend? 2!  Ouch.  So, always make sure you have an extra tube float around just in case the tube finds some wood or a sharp corner and gets a hole in it.

10) Burro’s are CUTE!

Where we were near Lake Havasu, Arizona, there are burro’s who are eating in the trees, and crossing the roads, and just hanging out.  And omg, they’re adorable!  Check these guys out:

    LOL Cute!!

Just an FYI though… you USUALLY don’t need extra tube floats!! Out of all the times we’ve been to the river, this is the 1st time we’ve had a problem with them like that!! I’ve had that one tube since June of 2006!!! The trick is NOT TO GET IN THEM near the dock like that!!! I guess I didn’t stress that ENOUGH!! LOL You HAVE to get in them either in shallow water on the beach side if you really need the extra help to get in or if you don’t want to get that wet, in shallow water, OR like I usually do, climb down the ladder on the other dock so you don’t have to get all sandy on the beach, then push the tube out into a little bit deeper water, AWAY from the dock, and THEN hop on in!!! ;-) lol Next time, next time we should have better luck with that!!! hehe ;-)

      LOL,

Oh I know, but I had to put it in because it happened to us ;) It was a fun weekend and thanks again for inviting me out!

  2. Romina

Oh how fun. Sounds like you had a blast! The one and only time I went tubing down a river, I lost my tube. Cute tats!

Back in MN we would cross the river into Wisconsin and go down the famous “Apple River.” Spent a whole day tubing and then we’d camp afterwards. So being by the river brought back a ton of memories for me =)

The heat makes me really cranky too! In fact, several times a summer I tell my fiance “I don’t like you because it’s hot.” and “It’s too hot to like you right now.” Yeah, harsh, but I’m lucky that he totally understands me and how I get. Such a shame that you put together a lasagna only to have it not able to cook; that is so unfortunate. And burros are really cute, you’re right. Looks like you had a great vacation and could catch up on some sleep and relaxation!

    • Jamie

The lasagna was saved though! lol… we covered it up, and the next day when the gas guy came around, we cooked it after =) it was yummy!

    • Nisha

“I don’t like you because it’s hot” is hilarious! I’m going to have to use that…

  4. Trianna

Heat makes me cranky too! I’m extra jealous because I don’t get to do things like this!!! UGH! I need to get a life. LOL
Sounds like you had major fun, girlie!

    • Jamie

Ahhh… wish I could take you away somewhere for a weekend!

  5. Moira Hutchison

Sounds like fun – overall ;). Personally – I love the heat… the only thing is that it makes me slow down and not want to do ANYTHING!

  6. Kathleen

What a fun way to show how your trip went, thanks for the smile! Sounds like you had TONS of fun!

  7. Maribel Reyes

It’s always nice to have a weekend away from home and some great girl time only fun. I’m glad you had fun! I completely understand how you feel with heat. Because I don’t like heat either… :)

  8. Candi

A vacation sounds fun, I am not a river person, more like a beach and a nice resort. But anything away from family would be great. jk

  9. Meghann @ Fuzzy.Little.Wishballs

Love your list! Sounds like your trip was very rewarding! :)

  10. Nisha

  11. Kerry

Sounds like you had a great vacation but I agree– usually I need a vacation to recover from my vacation!

I am visiting from the blogger comment club- thanks for letting me visit.

  12. Martha Giffen

What a fun story! I was right there with you! We are a “lake family” so I can really relate! BTW, love the tats! LOL

    • Jamie

The trip reminded me of fond memories I had growing up but man its taken me quite a bit to recover ;)

  13. Anita

What fun! Makes me want to take a trip today :) Maybe I will this weekend :)

  14. Alexis Grace

Okay, so it looks to me like you had a pretty amazing weekend!!! I love girls trips— I haven’t been on one in an eternity. I may have to rectify that!!!

  15. Lisa D.B. Taylor

LOL Looks like a great time. I don’t do so well in heat myself – but I’m still jealous of your holiday!

  16. Erin

LOL I think it took you awhile to “recover” since you were the one that had most of that “Roadrunner” drink…. I think it’s namesake is pretty correct since it zapped all of your energy out of you and Im sure it intensified the heat for you! lol I really need to get caught up with my blog and post my river trip pics and whatnot… lol ;-) Or any of the other 1000′s of things I need to catch up on! SEE ya soon.
