The Past: Minnesota

To think it’s been 3 years since I moved from Minnesota to LA.  The whole reason of my blog name “Minnesota Girl.”

I was born and raised there for 28 years.  Every September the leaves would begin to  change colors and fall was in the air.  It meant casseroles, and home cooked meals.  Pumpkin pies began to appear in stores and I’d always have to stop by the Apple Orchard in Stillwater.

And then, soon after, the snow would hit.  Some years as early as Halloween.  Everyone still talks about the big snowstorm of ’91 that happened on Halloween Day.  Yes,  imagine trick or treating in a 2 ft of snow.  Yes, we did it happily with our costumes over our snowsuits.

By March we were ready for spring to hit, but for whatever reason, Mother Nature never agreed and would give us one last big “dump” of snow.  March was usually the snowiest month of the entire winter.  I still remember the time it snowed in June.  Anything’s possible in Minnesota.

But once spring hit, the love for the Minnesota Twins truly came out.  For many, it meant taking the light rail to the stadium and hitting the bars before the game.

The new stadium opened up in 2010, the same year that I left for LA… and isn’t it gorgeous the way it looks towards the city? With close proximity to many Minneapolis hot spots it’s a great place for a stadium.

And then summer hits.  With our beautiful lakes and cabins up in the north we truly make the most of it.  Barbeques, water parks, and days at the lake, what’s not to love about Minnesota.

And this is why I keep the “Minnesota Girl” in me always even when new adventures are meant to be had.

Have you ever been to a Sing-A-Long?

Disclosure: This is a non-sponsored post. Had such a great time at the Hollywood Bowl I just wanted to write about it.

Last Saturday night with Jaime from Polka Dots on Parade, we headed to the Hollywood Bowl for the Sound of Music Sing-A-Long.

I have to admit something here: I had never seen the movie in full until that night, and let me tell you this, I have never laughed so hard in my life.

Hollywood Bowl

The evening started with us taking a shuttle to the Bowl, and let me tell you, this is the way to do.  Park your car and if you purchase your tickets ahead of time they’re just 6.75.  At the shuttle, you pay 10 dollars.  Sit and relax as you drive  to the bowl.  Walk right up to the entrance and enjoy the show.  Afterwards walk through the tunnel and board your bus to drive home.

Sound of Music Sing-A-Long

Before the movie starts that evening, yes a movie.  There is a pre-show where people participate in a costume contest and show off their best costumes related to the movie.  Melissa Peterman was the host, and she is just as hilarious in person.

People dressed up as nuns, A Long Line of Governances, Animal Puppets to the Lonely Goatherd to more.  It was fun to watch.  And definitely encouraged to dress up.  When we rode our shuttle over we were joined by a few nuns.

And then the movie started.  The entire bowl would sing a long with the songs on the screen as the words were at the bottom to easily follow along.  People would throw out random thoughts which made us burst out laughing.

During some parts they even brought out their lit up phones, and it was pretty neat to see the entire bowl lit up like that.  Others would use their flashlight apps during parts of the scenes when appropriate.

Needless to say, for my first time seeing the Sound of Music, this was truly a memorable experience, and I’d recommend this for anyone.

The Hollywood Bowl has shows through the end of October so if you haven’t been yet this season check to see if there’s a date that works for you.

What can you do in #6secondsflat #ad

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of Wendy’s and Linqia

Wendy’s has come up with an awesome contest on behalf of their Flatbread Grilled Chicken Sandwiches coming back for a limited time.  The sandwiches come in two flavors: Asiago Ranch and Honey Mustard, and let me tell you, the honey mustard sauce is delicious.

PrintThe contest is simple really.  With your Flatbread Grilled Chicken Sandwich come up with a video on Instagram, Vine, or even You Tube.  Make sure to tag Wendy’s and use the hashtag #6SecondsFlat and who knows you could be the person winning 6000 dollars.  Also, if you’ve read this post include hashtag: MNGirl6 and I just may end up winning a surprise from Wendy’s too.

To get an idea as to how this contest really works Wendy’s asked us to create our own videos.   With the creative mind of my other half and my willingness to come up with something clever this is what we ended up creating:

So, what do you think?  Did we inspire you to go and create your own video?  If you’ve already created your own video please share in the comments.  You can also find the above video on Instagram.  I’d love some likes, comments and love so please share your thoughts.
