Walt Disney Studios invited me out to a screening of “Brave” last Thursday night.  I honestly couldn’t wait to see the movie since the first time I saw the trailer almost 6 months ago.  The feisty and independent driven “Mirada” and her mother Queen Elinor scolding after her telling what she could not do.

What mother and daughter haven’t gone through this?  What mother and daughter couldn’t relate to this scenario over and over again.

And can I tell you this was the first 3D experience I’ve had since I was child.  I was the “anti-3d” girl, but after sitting through Brave 3D I have a much more open mind towards 3D movies.

The premise of the movie is this: 

“Queen Elinor”(voice of Emma Thompson) and “King Fergus”(Billy Connelly) sent out requests to do a challenge of the Princess’ choosing in which the winner would become her bethrothed.  Independent “Mirada” (voice of Kelly Macdonald) wanted nothing to do with this, and was on a mission to change her mother’s mind when she ran across a witch in the forest.  With one spell, lives all around would be changed.  The spell sure did its magic, and “Mirada” soon learned the mistake she had made, and now it was in her power to make it right again.

This movie has a little something for everyone whether it’s the daughter who can truly relate to young “Mirada” in wanting to do things her own way, or whether it is with “Queen Elinor” who just wants what is right for their daughter, and after all, mother knows best.  Or for the men that goes to see this movie having little immature moments of clan fighting, pulling down trousers, or the three young brothers who cause lots of ruckus, all in good fun.  If you have young children, there are violent parts of the movie, and some scary parts so I’d recommend any child 8 or older, but it’s in knowing your child.

And as for the message I took away from the movie?

Do you ever have a moment in life where a movie hits home on something that is going on in your own life?  Well, BRAVE truly did this for me.  As I related to myself in “Mirada’s” shoes in being the fesity and independent young woman that I have become and trying to live life on my own terms.

I was able to stand back for a moment and think about what could possibly be going through my mother’s mind through the character of “Queen Elinor.”

And the true message that came out of the movie for me was “Pride.”  In which, does pride tend to get in the way of our relationships time and time again?  Or is it truly up to us to put pride aside, and remember what’s truly important.  So, yes, Brave, you tricky little movie that you were, you gave me a whole new perspective on the situation I’m going through right now, and I’m letting you know I’m putting my “pride” aside to mend what has been torn.
