In Honor of Father’s Day, TV Dads

Posted by on June 13, 2012

and by reading this article from Childhood ReLived I am inspired to think back to all the TV Dads I grew up with and loved…

1) Homer Simpson

Matt Growing is awesome!

2) Charles from Charles in Charge

Okay, I get it.  He actually wasn’t a dad, but he did take on that caretaker “Dad” role so I wanted to include him. (Scott Baio)

3) Our beloved “Tim” from Home Improvement

Gosh, how I loved this show, and loved seeing what crazy things he would come up with next.  And we can’t forget his beloved colleague Al ;)  (Tim Allen)

 4) Bill Cosby in “The Bill Cosby Show” ;)

5) Remember the show “My Two Dads?”

I loved this show, but I had the hardest time remember when it was on.  Anytime I ran across it though I was so happy to watch it all over again.

Actors: Paul Reiser, Gary Evigan, and Staci Keanan

6) Tony Danza in “Who’s the Boss.”

7) Bob Saget from “Full House”

8) Al Bundy from “Married with Children”

9) Steven Keaton from “Family Ties.”

10) John Goodman in “Roseanne”

These were my top 10 Favorite TV Dads I grew up with… what are some of yours?

And BTW: I hope everyone has a GREAT Father’s Day Weekend up ahead =)

Jack from Three’s Company. You know he fathered a kid in their somewhere

  2. Anita

Awesome idea for a post! I think all of our Dads are somewhat like homer!

  3. Marie Leslie

Definitely Bill Cosby. He is still my favorite. Steven Keaton also did a great job. And my oldest daughter LOVED Full House as a kid. Our family favorite when all four were much younger was “Seventh Heaven” with Stephen Collins.

  4. Moira Hutchison

This is a great way to honor all Dads!! I love Bill Cosby… and of course Homer ;). A criteria of a good Dad to me is one that can make me laugh!

  5. Nisha

I used to wish Steven Keaton was my dad. Either that, or some mix between him and Bill Cosby. I loved them both!

What a fun post Jamie. I have to admit, I’m not much of a TV watcher, so the only one of these I’ve seen is Al Bundy, who I love. Not sure why, he’s certainly no role model . . . And the show bordered on the edge of stupidity, but it always made me laugh. This is probably showing my age (I only saw it in re-runs!), but I also liked Archie Bunker on All in the Family. I guess I like inappropriate dads that make me laugh.

  7. Lisa D.B. Taylor

Great post idea! I think Bill Cosby and Tim Allen would get my top votes.

I loved the fact that in the gated community where my grandparents use to live supposably was one of Bill Cosby’s home ;) It was enough for me!

  8. Rebecca Rider

I loved this list! My Dad is the most like Tim “the tool man” Taylor than any other dad on this list!

    • Jamie

Yes, Tim the tool man Taylor is one of my all time favorites =) Puts a smile on my face thinking about it… although my dad isn’t too much like him…

  9. Jenny

I used to watch every single one of those. Still watch the SIMPSONS though :)

    • Jamie

I haven’t watched the Simpsons in awhile but a friend posted an episode on one of her blogs and took me down memory lane =) hehe.. those shows were great.

  10. Ness

Oh I love Bill Cosby! I still find him hilarious now.
I miss Full House. I wish they still played reruns of that show.

Great list, I can’t think of any to add! Stopping by from SITS, thanks for the trip down memory lane!

  12. Alexis Grace

OH my gosh! This is hysterical! I love Bill Cosby — always!
