Celebrate #ShakeMonth at Johnny Rockets! #ad

Disclosure: I was invited out to a media preview at the original Johnny Rockets as they unveiled their “Shake of the Month.”

Every September at the restaurant chain “Johnny Rockets” they go all out in remembering what their guests love: their shakes.  And every September they celebrate with #ShakeMonth (ShakeMonth)

What makes Johnny Rockets shakes so good?  Well, it’s the science that goes behind their ice cream.  This ice cream, not available in stores, is only available at Johnny Rockets, and they’ve perfected it just the way they wanted.

When they invited us out to Johnny Rockets last weekend they provided us with a demonstration on how they make their shakes.

Johnny Rockets also showed us how they look out for those with allergies.  They have a specific mixer designed just for any peanut butter mixtures, and those that use peanut butter also get their own designated spoons.  I thought this was really awesome for them to be cautious with the shakes they hand out.

Burger and ShakeThroughout the day the servers came around handing out burgers and shakes.  Flavors of Chocolate, Banana, Strawberry, and more were handed out.  They also handed out different varieties of burgers.  (As I am writing this I am remember how awesome they tasted and started to drool a bit!)

Johnny Rockets is also known for the “Rocketeers” where the servers come out to sing and dance.  That day, they offered to teach a few of us a dance to “Johnny B Good.”  See how I’m trying to learn up above?

Left to Right: Monica from My Life is a Journey, Mr. Shake, Me, and Arie from Food Generations.

This is us with Mr. Shake showing our air guitars.  You can tell that’s an air guitar right?  It almost looks like I’m doing the “hula” dance.

But the entire reason we were there that day was to see what their latest creation was:

Candy Shake made with M&Ms

The Candy Shake made with M&M’s.  And yes, you can see the colors of the rainbow in this shake.  This shake will be available at Johnny Rockets beginning September 16th.

One last activity taking place that day was to invite children over to partake in some ketchup art.  For anyone that goes to Johnny Rockets, if you order fries, they will create a smiley face of ketchup to go with your fries for you.

I think they did pretty dang good, what about you?

#ShakeMonth is happening throughout the month of September at all Johnny Rocket locations.  Will you be stopping in?

Minneapolis Bike Trolleys!

Disclosure: This is a non-sponsored post.  We had such a fun time doing this that I wanted to share.

Back in June I took my mom out on the town in Downtown Minneapolis.  My grandpa had told us about the bike trolleys, so after our show, we flagged one down and tried it out.

Minneapolis Bike Trolley

Throughout the evening starting at around 6pm and going up to 2 or 3am these drivers ride their bikes trekking people to various locations throughout Downtown Minneapolis.

Going to the Twins game?  No sweat.  Park your car, walk to the game then catch one of these bike trolleys afterwards and they’ll take you to your car.

Looking for a tour of Downtown Minneapolis?  Hop in one of these trolleys and enjoy the ride.

There are tons of these drivers riding around in their trolleys.  The suggested donation was 5 dollars per person per ride, but it’s up to you to give more or less, depending on what’s affordable for you.

Our driver was awesome that evening.  He even attached a radio to his bike so as we were driving along tunes were playing.  Of course, as the songs were coming out we were singing along and laughing the entire time.

So, if you’re in town visiting Minneapolis I highly recommend taking a trek on a bike trolley.  It will be a memory to last a lifetime.

Mmm…Mmm… French Cuisine at Mimi’s Cafe #ad

Disclosure: I was invited out for a preview of their new menu items.  All opinions are my own.

When you think of Mimi’s Cafe what are the first words that come to mind?  Well, Mimi’s has been working hard for the past 5 months on bringing the “authentic” back into Mimi’s Cafe.

Phil Costner, President of Mimi’s Cafe since February 2013 when Le Duff America Inc. took ownership simply said, “The goal isn’t to take anything away but instead bring Mimi’s Cafe back to it’s rightful place.”

Chef Katie Sutton, Kirstin from SoCalKidsOutdoorAdventures, Raquel from Organized Island, Melanie from LA Xplorer and Erin from HorsingAroundinLA

And in doing so they are bringing back more classic French inspired cuisine to the menu.  The dishes, headed by Executive Chef Katie Sutton will leave you pleasantly surprised.  And, the quality of dish you are receiving for the price will keep you coming back.

Last week I was invited out to try out the new dishes:

Mimi's Cafe Appetizers

The evening started out with appetizers.  Featured above from the left are the Baked Brie, Seafood Crepe, and The Mussels.

The Baked Brie is served with French Baguette Croutons, Sliced Apples and Apricot Chutney.  The key is to truly have all ingredients together making it a great combination.

The seafood crepe is just that.  A homemade herbe crepe filled with sauteed shrimp, scallops and spinach covered in a lobster sauce.

And the mussels.  That evening was the first time I ever attempted mussels, and Mimi’s Cafe has me sold on having them again.  A favorite appetizer pick for me.

And then it was time for the entrees.  That evening I chose the Brioche Croque Madame which is an open faced ham and swiss sandwich with Mimi’s classic French Mornay sauce served on brioche, topped with a fried egg.  Served with a petite salad.

Other Entrees tried that evening included:

mimi's entrees

From left to right: Mediterranean Salade with Herbes de Provence Chicken, Grilled Salmon Salade Niciose, and the Bistro Bavette Steak.

The salad came out in a beautiful presentation, and from an outsiders view just made me want to order it.  The Salmon atop mixed greens, and the Bavette Steak came with a side of mushroom infused au gratin potatoes that were a favorite for many that evening.

But the dish that stole the show for me that evening was:

Saint-Malo Pasta

The Saint-Malo Pasta.

This pasta came out in a beautiful presentation with the mussels surrounding the pasta.  And, if you love spice, you will love this pasta because it definitely has a bite to it, and the Chef made it that way on purpose.

But the launch of these new menu items couldn’t have been done without all the hard work taking place at the test kitchen in Tustin, CA.  For the past 3 months they have been serving these dishes to customers with real cooks and real servers to get the dishes just right for the official launch come October.  All of the dishes served to us that evening were apart of their lunch and dinner menus.

But there was one last surprise for us from their breakfast menu.  The Mini Waffles:

miniwaffles

The one on the left is a bacon and apple infused waffle, and the one on the right is strawberry topped.  This dish comes with three waffles served altogether and is apart of their Breakfast menu selections that just launched on September 9th.

The rest of the menu should begin launching October 9th in Mimi’s Cafes across the nation.  And let me tell you, it’s bringing the “authentic” back to Mimi’s Cafe.

Tell me, what are you looking forward to trying?
